According to statistics from the Legal Information and Advocacy Program it costs on average $138 to assist one client per year. The assistance one client can receive for $138 ranges from receiving basic legal information, to requiring assistance with Supreme Court documentation, court/lawyer accompaniment, or court preparation.
That amount will enable us to provide direct services to one person from our community with their family, poverty, or immigration issues. All donors at the $138 level will be acknowledged by having their name placed on a legacy wall at the legal resource centre. Many of our clients require on-going assistance and the extent of their legal issues have kept many files open and active for years. With recent cuts to legal aid coverage clients are facing situations where they no longer qualify for legal aid, or their lawyer’s hours are maximized before the case finishes in court.
